Eighteen years ago I was recommended Pilates by my physiotherapist to help deal with a severe back injury that I acquired while at The School of the Toronto Dance Theatre. I was amazed at how Pilates helped me recover from my injury by strengthening and lengthening my muscles, improving my posture and joint stability, and removing my muscular imbalances. Since that time, I have used Pilates to recover from various sport injuries and conditions (i.e., Si Joint instabilities, patellar pathologies, herniated discs, wrist fracture, back pain from arthritis, and built up anxiety and stress). Without Pilates, I certainly would not be able to continue to do the activities that I love to do (e.g., mountain biking, running, and dance).
I hope to share this excellent form of mind-body exercise with as many people as possible so that they can also reap the many benefits physically and mentally. It truly is a special exercise modality that can be performed anywhere, anytime, and with anyone!
